e-Visas
What You Need to Know About Replacing Your BRP
What Are e-Visas?
If you are a student with a BRP that expires on 31 December 2024 but your studies extend beyond this date, it’s crucial to act now to transition to an eVisa.
Here's everything you need to know
Why is This Important?
Starting January 2025, BRPs will no longer be valid proof of immigration status. If you plan to travel during the Christmas break and need to re-enter the UK to continue studying or attend your graduation, having an eVisa will be essential.
Failure to evidence your immigration status after this date could result in:
Difficulty re-entering the UK
Disruption to your studies
Potential issues with your visa sponsorship
Steps to Transition from BRP to eVisa
To transition to an eVisa, follow these steps:
1
Create a UKVI Account
- Visit the UKVI website
- Provide your date of birth, BRP number (or passport details if you don’t have a BRP), email, and access to a smartphone.
2
Access and Prove Your Immigration Status
- Log in to your UKVI account.
- Use the “View and Prove” service to generate a share code to share your immigration status with employers, colleges, landlords, or others.
3
Replace Your BRP
- Transitioning to an eVisa is FREE and ensures your immigration status is up-to-date.
Benefits of an eVisa
With an eVisa, you can:
- View your visa expiry date and conditions (e.g., work permission)
- Share your immigration status with colleges, employers, or landlords using a share code.
- Avoid the risk of losing or damaging a physical BRP card.
